
This Wont Happen Again This Year in the Hudson Valley
The Hudson Valley has said goodbye to a daily highlight for the last time in 2025.
As the end of summer approaches in the Hudson Valley, many residents are sad to learn that one daily highlight, enjoyed by millions across New York State, has happened for the last time this year.
Sunsets in New York
Most of us can agree that there is something special about taking the time to watch the sunset over the Hudson Valley, NY. Watching the sky transform into a breathtaking variation of colors as the sun descends and slowly disappears is magical.
In the summer months, New Yorkers get used to sunsets happening well after 7 p.m., but as fall approaches, sunsets are getting earlier and earlier each day, and before long, it will set before 5 p.m.
Sunsets Get Earlier, and Earlier in New York State
Thankfully, sunsets before 5 p.m. aren't happening just yet, but on Wednesday, September 17th, 2025, New York will enjoy its last sunset after 7 p.m.
According to Time and Date, the sun set at 7:01 p.m. on the 17th and won't set again after 7 until 2026.
2025 Sunset Times in New York
The sun is expected to set in New York on Thursday, September 18th at 6:59 p.m., marking the first time it's set before 7 p.m. since March 12th, 2025. The good news is that we will be able to enjoy later sunsets for the next month or so.

The next big change in sunset times won't happen until October 25th, 2025, when we experience the last sunset before 6 p.m. After enjoying a week of sunsets between 5-6 p.m., New York will experience its last sunset after 5 p.m. on November 1st, 2025.
Daylight Saving Time 2025
Daylight saving time will end on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at 2 a.m., when we fall back and turn our clocks back one hour. Once the clock change is complete, the sun is expected to set later that day at 4:50 p.m.
The sun will set in New York at approximately 4:30 p.m. for a few weeks late in November and into December. By the end of December, the climb back to a 5 p.m. sunset is underway.
New York will have its first sunset after 5 p.m. on January 22nd, 2026 (5:01 p.m.) and after 6 p.m. on March 8th, 2026 (6:55 p.m.).
