Dangerously Cold Temperatures Blanket the Hudson Valley
January is bringing in the the dangerously cold temperatures this week across the Hudson Valley.
On Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025 parts of the Hudson Valley woke up to temperatures well below zero.
Residents in the Orange County region reported -25 degrees on their car dashboards, while Dutchess County residents were checking in with reports of -11 to -8 degrees.
The weather was so cold, Beacon Professional Firefighters wrote on Facebook:
Please avoid any prolonged outdoor exposure! Dress in layers! Keep pets inside with the exception of using the bathroom! Check on your elderly neighbors! If you have any outdoor exposed pipe consider opening a faucet slightly to help avoid freezing!
First Hudson Valley Snowfall of 2025
On Sunday January 19th, 2025 the Hudson Valley also experienced their first real snowfall of the year.
The National Weather Service released their snow totals for the Hudson Valley region after the first major snowfall. The towns and cities in our area received anywhere between 3 to 9 inches of snow.

Enough to say there was a significant snowfall. However, would you believe us if we said our friends down south got more than we did?!
Southern States Get Smoked with Snowfall
It's true!
It looks like our friends down south are struggling to get through this winter season. States like Louisiana, Alabama, North and South Carolina and Florida are covered in snow.
We're not talking a dusting either.
The US National Weather Service based in Mobile, Alabama posted the following notice on Wednesday January 22nd, 2025:
Earlier this week they warned communities calling the incoming winter weather "life threatening."
According to News 10 ABC in Albany, 12 inches of snow fell in New Orleans, 8 inches in Pensacola, FL and Mobile, Alabama.
Who would have thought New Orleans would get more snow than the Hudson Valley?! I guess stranger things have happened. We still have over 50 days until Spring, will the south out snow us this year?
