Hudson Valley Man with 50+ Prior Arrests Busted Again
A Hudson Valley man who has been arrested 57 times before has been arrested again after he was caught allegedly breaking into cars in Highland, New York.
According to the Town of Lloyd Police Department, they were called to respond to a call on Saturday, November 9th at an apartment complex on Mile Hill Road in Highland, NY to investigate someone allegedly breaking into vehicles parked at the complex.
Car Break-ins in Highland, New York
As town of Lloyd officers arrived on the scene they encountered 40-year-old Nicholaus C. Mikus and attempted to stop him to investigate the car break-ins and as officers approached, Mikus fled on foot. He was apprehended a short time later and placed under arrest. He was charged with Petit Larceny, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd degree, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree.
50+ Prior Arrests & Numerous Warrants
After placing Mikus under arrest, police announced that the homeless man had 57 prior arrests and had 6 active warrants out for his arrest from the City of Newburgh Police, the City of Poughkeepsie Police, the Town of Newburgh Police and the Town of Poughkeepsie police departments. One of Mikus's previous arrests made headlines in the Hudson Valley in 2017 when he along with a then 25-year-old Alexandra C. Schimmel of Hyde Park, NY were arrested after allegedly stealing two thousand dollars worth of merchandise from an Ulster County Walmart.

He was arraigned in the Ulster County Centralized Arraignment Part and sent to the Ulster County Jail on $25,000 cash bail. He is due back in the Town of Lloyd Court at a later date to face the charges. As with any criminal case, all suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The Town of Lloyd Police were assisted by the New York State Police and Ulster County Sheriff's Department.
