A Hudson Valley mailman saved a local man's life.

On Wednesday at the New City Post Office, New City mail carrier Robert Korba was honored with a United States Postal Service hero award for his actions on Jan. 3.

While delivering mail, Korba, who lives in Monroe, found a New City man lying in his driveway unresponsive.

Korba, who is CPR qualified, immediately called 911. He proceeded to turn the man over, tilt his head back, clear his airway and started chest compressions until police arrived, officials say.

The man was then transported to a hospital.

Clarkstown Police credited Korba with saving the man’s life.

"Congratulations Robert on a job exceptionally well done," Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann wrote on Facebook.

Although the man passed away the following weekend, his family credits Korba with giving them the opportunity to spend a few more days with their loved one.
