It was a tragic case that captivated the Hudson Valley. Angelika Graswald plead guilty in July to criminally negligent homicide in the April 2015 death of her fiance, Vincent Viafore. On Thursday, she'll be released from custody.

Viafore was a well-liked member of the local community and it's a shock to many that Graswald is already being released this week. The Poughkeepsie Journal reports that under her terms of her release, she'll be supervised by Orange County community supervision staff for 16 months.

Graswald had been held at Orange County Jail since she was taken into custody, before being moved to Bedford Hills last month. Based on her sentence of 1 to 4 years in prison, she basically gets off with time served. She is not originally from the United States. She was born in Latvia and could face deportation after she completes her probationary period.
