A local high school dealt with a major scare following reports of a potential threat.

Late Wednesday, Minisink Valley Central School District officials were made aware of a rumor circulating among students of a potential threat to the high school on Friday.

District officials immediately contacted New York State Police who began an investigation.

On Thursday, there was a large police presence on the district’s main campus and Otisville campus. Classes were not disrupted, school officials say.

“As always, we take any threat to the safety of our students and staff very seriously, and we are fully invested in coordinating efforts with law enforcement to investigate and remove any potential danger,” the school district stated.

State police investigated every aspect of the alleged threat and found that there was no credible information or evidence to support the rumors of the potential threat.

For safety reasons, authorities returned to the high school on Friday.
