Hudson Valley Female Athletes Experience NY Jets Girls Flag Football Media Day

The Hudson Valley was well represented last month at MetLife Stadium when the New York Jets welcomed student-athletes to a special media day.

New York Jets Host Girls High School Flag football Media Day

In 2021, The New York Jets (along with Gatorade and Nike) launched a high school girls flag football league. Now in 2024, there are over 100 teams in the Hudson Valley, Long Island and New Jersey.

According to the NY Jets website the league was started because The Jets, Nike, Gatorade "believe girls should have the opportunity to play football and experience everything the greatest game in the world has to offer."  They add:

The Jets High School Girls Flag Football League provides character building, perseverance, teamwork and dedication skills that will empower these girls throughout every aspect of their lives.

Hudson Valley Female Athletes Attend Jets Flag Football Media Day

Teams representing the Hudson Valley included Kingston and Middletown. Just this week, The Enlarged City School District of Middletown shared photos from the students at the event including their opportunity to meet one of the bigger names from Italy's National Flag Football team.

Another Hudson Valley school involved at Jets High School Football Media Day was Minisink High School. Head coach Mike Tepper said in a statement "I'll be honest with you, in the positive limelight, we never thought this could actually happen." He added, "We've always dreamed of a day like this when we started our youth leagues and organization, Old Skwel back 12 years ago, but it was like a pipe dream."
