New York State: "Slow Down, Move Over!"

Back in 2010 New York State implemented a new law called The Move Over Law. It was created to "prevent collisions with emergency vehicles that were stopped on the roadway."

Since then, the law has been expanded to also cover hazard vehicles, highway worker vehicles, and tow trucks. Most recently, it was expanded again in 2023 to cover ALL VEHICLES on the road way.

According to the New York State Traffic Safety website, between 2016 and 2020 37 people were killed outside disable vehicles in the state. With statistics like that one understands why such a law would be implemented.

Hudson Valley AAA Driver Narrowly Misses Disaster

It may come as a shock to some, but New York State drivers still have difficulty following the Move Over Law.

AAA Hudson Valley shared a terrifying video of one of their service drivers on the side of a local road earlier this week. In the video we see a AAA tow truck getting ready to assist a vehicle.

Then, in a blink of an eye we see another car driving full speed at the service driver and tow truck.

Watch the scary incident unfold below:

AAA wrote "SLOW DOWN AND MOVE OVER ⚠️ This SCARY scene is from today when one of our own service drivers was nearly hit by a car‼️ ⚠️ #SlowDownAndMoveOver ⚠️ It's the law."

From what we can tell, the AAA service driver was okay. Details about the driver are unknown at this time.
