The Home Energy Assistance Program is back this year.

As the temperature drops, for most of us that means the heating bill is about to go way up and for some families, paying the home heating bill can be a huge struggle.

Good news is that according to WTEN, more than $372 million will now be available in New York State to help residents keep the heat on this winter.

Assistance is made available to help low and middle income and older adult residents, and is determined by income, household size, and how the home is heated.

Applications for the program will be available starting November 13th and will be accepted at your local department of social services starting on January 2, 2019.

If you would like to see if you qualify for the program, all you need to do is fill out an application in your county of residence.

If you find that you need emergency assistance please contact your local department of social services.
