When I was growing up, some of my friends had dads who were long distance truckers. While I knew that they were gone, for often weeks at a time, I don't think I really appreciated how hard and important their job really was.

Of course, not all truck drivers are long-distance drivers, some work within a limited geographical area, but even then, they put in long hours behind the wheel to make sure that goods and services are delivered to where they need to be.

According to the American Trucking Association and PRNewswire, more than 80% of communities through the country rely on truck drivers to deliver what they need to help feed their families, stock their shelves, and keep the community going.

It's an important job and this week, it's time to recognize the almost 3.5 million men and women who work hard to get us what we need.

If you have a truck driver in your family, you don't need me to tell you all of this, you already know how important they are, but for the rest of us, this is our chance to say thank you, just like these folks have.

Thank you truck drivers for your dedication and hard work. We would be in big trouble without you.
