What to be on Halloween can be a big challenge. Do you go traditional with the witch or ghost or a favorite monster. Do you laugh it up with a comedy idea like the Sponge Bob Square Pants. The popular choice these days are super heroes like Batman, Thor and Super girl.

The tradition of dressing up on October 31st which we now know as Halloween goes all the way back to a Scottish ritual from 1585. However it is believed it may even be an older tradition from earlier pagan religions. The Halloween costume of old usually consisted of the supernatural or mythical being. In modern times it has taken on more of a character roll such as a figure from pop culture or cartoon.

Which ever way you decide to go it is still difficult to make that choice each year. And if you have multiple children to dress it can be even harder. My suggestion is keep it as simple as possible and go with what the kids want to be, as long as you feel it is age appropriate. Trust me there is nothing worse than your parent dressing you up for Halloween in a costume you don't want to wear. That's a story for a different blog.
