Are you a budding bowhunter? Do you know someone who wants to get into bowhunting this season? Why not take a class and learn all the basics.

While you're still sitting at home in quarantine why not be proactive for the upcoming hunting season.

The Department of Environmental Conservation announced this week that if you're a bowhunter or a future bowhunter you can receive your bowhunter education certificate online.

If you didn't know, hunters who plan on hunting bear and deer in the fall with a bow are required to have a bowhunter education certificate. They also must complete a "mandatory hunter education course" before purchasing a hunting license.

The bowhunter education class will run future hunters $30 and will take about 6 hours' time to complete.

These classes are available to hunters who are New York State residents and are 11 years of age or older. With that being said you must 12 years of age and older to purchase a hunting license.

Classes are available now through August 31st.

For more information on classes and to schedule your class visit the Official New York Bowhunter Safety Course page through the DEC website.

Early Bowhunting season for deer and bear kicks off in the Hudson Valley on October 1st. Followed by Crossbow on Novemeber 7th, Regular on November 21st and Late December 14th.

Will you be hunting in the Hudson Valley this fall?
