What Happened to Gerrit Cole?

The New York Yankees ace is still rehabbing from a 2025 elbow injury.

During Spring Training in 2025 Cole suffered from an elbow injury. Said injury turned into a major surgery.

Cole underwent Tommy John surgery, which then forced the pitcher to be sidelined for all of the 2025 season. So far Cole has missed the first 2 months of the season with the Yankees down in the Bronx, but he's getting some tosses in.

Over the last few weeks Gerrit Cole has been on rehab assignment with minor league programs, including the Hudson Valley Renegades in Wappingers Falls, New York

Gerrit Cole Returns to the Mound For the Hudson Valley Renegades

At the end of April 2026 Hudson Valley Yankees fans were in for quite the treat.

Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon were both on rehab assignment with the Hudson Valley Renegades, who are a high-A affiliate of the New York Yankees.

It looks like Cole is giving it another go at Heritage Financial Field in Wappingers Falls. The Hudson Valley Renegades announced on social media that Cole will take the mound again on Tuesday May 5th, 2026.

Cole will pitch as the Renegades take on Winston-Salem Dash (the Chicago White Sox High-A Affiliate).

Heritage Financial Field Gets High Praise From Yankee Pros

The crowds came out in droves the last time Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon were in town back on April 23rd and 24th, 2026.

Both games ended in wins for the Hudson Valley Renegades and it sounds like the professionals like our facilities here in the mid-Hudson region.

After the game Cole said "I've never seen a High-A facility quite so nice." He also enjoyed food from local favorites Cafe Con Leche in Wappingers Falls.

Carlos Rodon also had some nice things to say about Heritage Financial Field, saying:

"These facilities are great and it's a pretty place. It's a nice place to pitch."

This isn't the first time Rodon pitched for the Renegades, he took the mound back on July 3rd, 2023.
