Tops Market Recalls Garlic Sold in New York

If you went to the grocery store recently to load up on fresh ingredients, you may want to double check your purchases.

Tops Market is recalling a specific brand of garlic sold in Tops stores in New York, Vermont and Pennsylvania.

According to the Tops website there's a Class I recall on Christopher Ranch Peeled Garlic 6 OZ. A Class I, according to the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Services,:

involves a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.

The products affected UPC code is 00007457410852.

Why Is Tops Market Recalling Peeled Garlic?

The recall of Christopher Ranch Peeled Garlic was announced on Tuesday March 24th, 2026.

Tops explains the reason for the recall, writing "Product needs to be 32 to 37 degrees and the open air coolers cannot get to this temperature."

The Democrat & Chronical explains that the garlic "may not have been stored at the required 32 to 37 degrees Fahrenheit.

They add that garlic that is stored in higher temps "can lead to the growth of Clostridium botulinum bacteria" the bacteria that causes botulism.
