Free Ice Cream to Kids Who Can Recite the Pledge of Allegiance
This has to be one of the best ideas we've seen in a long time!
For as long as I can remember there have been businesses that offer children the chance to earn rewards at their locations for good grades, perfect attendance, and in some cases for how many books they've read. Applebee's offers a free kid’s meal for straight A's, Baskin-Robbins will give kids a free scoop of ice cream for good grades on their report cards, Pizza Hut will give any child who has 3 A’s on their report card one Personal Pan Pizza, as well as free pizza for children who read books.
I'm not sure if all the businesses above still do these types of rewards but recently I discovered that an ice cream promotion happening at various ice cream shops across the country that we think would work GREAT in the Hudson Valley.
Free Ice Cream Pledge
The "I Pledge" campaign gives kids 12 and under a free ice cream cone for reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. The campaign, launched by Leopold’s Ice Cream in Savannah, Georgia in the summer of 2010 has been growing every year since it launched with new ice cream shops signing up for the pledge each year. The pledge promotion works like this, during July, participating shops reward children for their patriotism by offering them free ice cream for reciting the Pledge of Allegiance by memory.

Massachusetts Ice Cream Shop Offers Free Ice Cream
Massachusetts Eskimo King has been offering the pledge promotion for years and is back this year offering free ice cream every Monday in July from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to kids up to the age of 12 who can recite the pledge according to WJAR. Massachusetts is a bit far for many of us to drive for free ice cream, so are any New York ice cream places participating?
New York Ice Cream Shops Offering Free Ice Cream
Currently, there is only one New York ice cream shop signed up for the pledge this year (Red White and Moo Ice Cream Shop in Holley N.Y.) but we think this would be something that would work prefect in the Hudson Valley. Right? Do you think we could get a Hudson Valley ice cream place to do something like this? If you would like to see your favorite ice cream place do the "I Pledge" this year, let us know through our station app below, and who knows maybe they will see it and offer it soon.
