First Plowable Snowfall Lands in Parts of New York

The New York State Department of Transportation has reported the first plowable snowfall of the year in New York.

Most New Yorkers aren't expecting to see any significant snowfall for at least the next few weeks, but our friends up north have already received the first plowable snowfall of the year.

First Plowable Snowfall of the Year in New York

According to a recent post on the New York State Department of Transportation Facebook page, the first plowable snowfall has already happened in the Lake Placid region of New York. The post dated November 1st, 2025 stated,

"Hello November! A couple inches of snow last night between Keene and Lake Placid through the Cascade Lakes. First plowable snowfall of the year!"

 

As you can see in the pictures above it wasn't a huge snowfall, but it was enough for the DOT to dispatch a few plow trucks to remove the snow from area roadways. For most of us, it's too early to see snow in the Hudson Valley region, but according to some weather experts, snow could come sooner than later.

When Will New York See Its First Snowfall?

The Farmers' Almanac made its first snow predictions back in September, saying,

"Thanksgiving week looks like a meteorological mixed bag—light snow and rain could complicate travel plans in the central and eastern U.S."

Meteorologist Ben Noll, who many believe is the best Hudson Valley forecaster, states that the average date for the first snowfall in the Hudson Valley is around December 4th, with the first inch of snow typically arriving in the first week of December, according to Hudson Valley Post.
