Local Fire Department Called Out to Barn Fire

The Union Vale Fire Department is sharing details about a devastating fire.

According to the press release, on Tuesday, October 7th 2025, shortly after 10 am, the Union Vale Fire District received a call about a barn fire on Wisseman Road.

LaGrange Fire District and the East Fishkill Fire District's FAST team were dispatched along with UVED Engine 67-14.

Before the call, UVED Engine 67-14 was on sight at Vail Farm Elementary School for Fire Prevention Safety Day and observed "a large column of black smoke in the area."

The press release explains that while responding to the fire at Weissman Road, Engine 67-14 "requested a 2nd Alarm assignment" requesting additional mutual aid resources.

UVED and LFD were on the scene within 4 minutes of being dispatched.

They began "fire suppression prioritizing nearby exposures" that were being effected by the heat and fire damage.

The fire was knocked down and under control by 12:10 pm.

Several local agencies assisted in knocking down the blaze including: Beekman Fire District, East Fishkill Fire District, JH Ketcham Hose Company, LaGrange Fire District, Millbrook Fire Department, Pawling Fire District. Pleasant Valley Fire District, Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response, Dutchess County Sheriff's Office. New York State Police, JSK Excavation, Union Vale Town Highway Department, Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division and Empress EMS.

Person Injured, Animals Perish in Union Vale Fire

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

With that being said, one person was treated and then transported to Westchester County Medical Center "for injuries sustained on the scene."

Additionally, the press release explains that 5 dogs sadly died as they were inside the barn at the time of the fire.
