Why Are Police Cracking Down?

The report states that after being alerted to a rising number of drivers using these emergency spaces, police have decided to take action because, if there's an emergency, first responders must have clear access to the Home Depot store. If a vehicle is blocking a fire lane, it could result in an access delay, which could have "devastating consequences".

To stop people from parking in fire lanes, the Town of Poughkeepsie Police plan to increase patrols and surveillance and are "insisting" that anyone caught parked in a fire lane be subject to a $125 fine. The fine is in accordance with the Town of Poughkeepsie code.

Detective Gregory Drobot, from the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, told the Sun, "Don't be lazy, find a parking spot."
