For many low-income families in the Hudson Valley, if your car breaks down, you may not have the money for the repairs, and without a car, getting to work becomes a major challenge. That's where the 'Wheels to Work' program comes in.

Begun in 2001, this program is designed to help low-income families get, and keep, a job by providing them with reliable transportation. According to the Office of the Dutchess County Executive, over the past 15 years, 840 cars with insurance deposits and registration have been given to qualifying families. In addition, more than 3,000 families have benefited from the Dutchess County Community Solutions for Transportation, a program that helps individuals with learner's permits, licences, road tests, and more.

By providing these families with reliable transportation, it makes it easier for individuals to get a job with more hours or higher pay and even get their children to and from school if needed. Every family who receives a vehicle has gone through an extensive process and have shown determination and commitment to help better their lives and the lives of their families.

Congratulations to this year's families!
