Rescue workers are expected to arrive in the Hudson Valley with dozens of dogs displaced by the floods in Texas.

Mary Ann Bopp from Pets Alive in Middletown says that volunteers have been working around the clock to prepare to take in the dogs that have been rescued from flood waters.

Animals living at shelters in the affected areas that were most likely to be flooded are being relocated to other areas of the country. Rescue workers are traveling to the Hudson Valley with dozens of dogs and are expected to arrive on Tuesday morning.

Pets Alive will be the staging area for the animals when they arrive and will take in 19 dogs, with the rest being sheltered at Hudson Valley SPCA, Humane Society of Walden and Suruluna Animal Rescue.

Becky Tegze, Executive Director at Pets Alive says that she's more than happy to help out these displaced animals. “In times of crisis, it's important that we all work together. That is how we make the biggest impact and save the most lives.”

The animals will need medical assistance and vaccinations that will cost thousands of dollars. Those who wish to volunteer or contribute to Pets Alive's already stretched medical budget can contact the organization online.

The pets rescued from Texas will be available for adoption in a few weeks, depending on their medical condition.
