A bit of a prankster, Dierks Bentley has been serving as his own opening act at some recent shows. The country star and his band have been popping up pre-show, in disguise, including at a recent concert in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Taste of Country reports that Bentley showed up onstage in sunglasses and a cowboy hat to perform with the Bolo Boys Bluegrass Band (aka his band, also in atypical attire) ahead of his own headlining set at West Palm Beach’s Perfect Vodka Amphitheatre on June 17. Alongside the newly christened Bolo Boys, Bentley performed “Sold (Grundy County Auction),” originally released in 1995 by John Michael Montgomery; readers can press play above to watch.

Bentley is a known bluegrass fan: In 2010, he released a full bluegrass album, Up on the Ridge. His Bolo Boys Bluegrass Band also recently made an appearance at a May Bentley concert in Maryland, and performed at another show in early June.

His turn as part of the Bolo Boys Bluegrass Band isn't the first time that Bentley has dressed up in costume and surprised his fans. In 2015, the singer and his crew turned into the ‘90s country cover band Hot Country Knights for a special performance during the Country Radio Seminar. As part of the group, Bentley performed while wearing a mullet wig and ‘90s-style wraparound sunglasses.

Bentley has been out on the road for much of 2017, on his What The Hell World Tour. The trek is currently scheduled to run through early September.
