The Denizen Theatre in New Paltz has announced their 2019 season. Five amazing shows will take place at the Denizen starting next week (April 3rd) and run through later this fall. "Every Brilliant Thing" directed by Eva Tenuto is opening first and promises to be a stunningly emotional piece of theatre.

Other shows coming up later in the year are still to being cast which is why the Denizen is holding auditions this Saturday and Sunday. Local actor are strongly encouraged to audition. According to the Denizen Facebook page they are "proud to have a season that offers dynamic roles (especially for women) in fresh, new plays, and we want to further expand the diversity of our company. We can't wait to see your auditions and meet you!"

The Denizen Theatre in New Paltz is a black box theatre. The space lends itself to a special kind of performance for both the actors and the audience. Their is a personal space between the performers and the audience which allows the people attending a show to feel as if they are actually in the play with the actors. As a viewer it is truly mesmerizing. I have attended two very different types of performances in the space and left both feeling like I was involved in the performance as much as I watch it unfold. If you have ever want to act in this type of intimate theatre experience the Denizen is hoping you will audition.

The auditions in New Paltz this weekend are for the upcoming regional premiere of Kevin Armento's "Companion Piece" and the US premiere of "Meek" by Penelope Skinner. In person auditions are held by appointment only and you must request an audition time by emailing information@denizentheatre.com.  When emailing for an audition be sure to state which play you wish to audition for and include a head shot plus current resume. Also include where you would audition, New Paltz or New York, the role you want to be considered for and if you have access to local housing.

All shows at the Denizen are Wednesday thru Saturday at 8 pm and a Sunday matinee at 2pm. Ticket prices are $5 for Students, $15 for person under 30, $24 for Seniors and all others $28. You can also purchase a 3 Show Flex Subscription for $75 or the 5 Show Season Subscription for $125.
