Following an all-star start to the 2019 CMA Awards, another group of country women took the stage for a second collaboration on Wednesday night (Nov. 13). Kelsea BalleriniLindsay EllMaddie & TaeAshley McBrydeCarly Pearce and Runaway June were all featured in a special performance of Little Big Town's 2015 hit, "Girl Crush."

All six up-and-coming acts were dressed in black-and-white and backed by a simple set, letting their powerhouse vocals do the heavy lifting -- and not one note was out of place. Ell lent her stellar guitar skills to the song as well.

The compelling performance of "Girl Crush" ended with Little Big Town joining for the last verse. "You're looking at the future of country music right here," LBT's Karen Fairchild said as the performance received an extended standing ovation from the room.

Written by the Love Junkies -- Hillary Lindsey, Lori McKenna and Liz Rose -- "Girl Crush" became a megahit for Little Big Town following its release in December of 2014. The song earned Single of the Year and Song of the Year at the 2015 CMA Awards, and two Grammy Awards: one for Best Country Song and one for Best Country Duo / Group Performance.

Ballerini, Ell, McBryde and company's collaboration is part of the Country Music Association's effort to use the 2019 CMA Awards to shine a spotlight on the women of country music. Female voices are underrepresented in the genre as of late, as a number of studies have shown, so showrunners chose to use Country Music's Biggest Night to give them -- both the up-and-coming women and the genre's legendary names -- a platform.
