It's a sad day for the Brewster Police Department and the Hudson Valley.  K-9 Falco of the Brewster Police Department was put down on October 25th. He was 4 years old.

According to an emotional Facebook post from Falco's handler Officer Paul Italiano, Falco had been sick for quite some time now. Back in October of 2016 Falco was first diagnosed with Lymphoma or cancer of his Lymph nodes. In May of 2017 things were looking better when Falco was in full remission.

However, his remission only lasted six weeks.

Officer Italiano noticed that last week that Falco had lost his appetite and as time went on his lymph nodes became extremely swollen causing issues with swallowing. After a trip to the vet, it was determined that nothing else could be done to fix Falco's current state.

At 5:37 Falco was peacefully euthanized with Office Italiano by his side.

Italiano paid tribute to his partner writing "Falco was more than just a Police K-9. He was a member of our family. He lived with us, protected our home and my family. He was my partner, Always vigilante and always ready to please."

Falco was named in honor of City of Poughkeepsie Police Detective John Falcone.

Rest in Peace, Falco. Thank you for your service.
