There were so many activities going on that there might have been some stuff you missed. For one, I know that I missed an amazing donation to the  DEC K9 unit in Dutchess County. According to the weekly Department of Environmental Conservation press release, on Sunday May 21st while at the NE Outdoor Sports Show Robert Ahlers presented K-9 Shamey and K-9 Woods (along with their handlers Sgt. Keith Isles and ECO Vernon Bauer) with 10 oxygen masks.

Ahlers, who is a Boy Scout, came up with the idea for his end of the year community service project in hopes of badge advancement. He took the money he collected from making bottle returns to purchase the masks. These masks are usually used at fire departments to use when animals are in distress if they were involved in a fire. For the K-9 Unit the masks will be used if a pup is injured or overcome with fumes in the line of duty. Along with the DEC K-9 Unit Ahlers donated masks to the Orange and Ulster County Fire Departments and a City of Newburgh K-9 Unit.
