On March 12th it was announced that the 737 MAX 8 Boeing fleet at Stewart International Airport in Newburgh were grounded.

The decision to ground the 737 MAX 8 planes was due to concern over the Etheopian Airlines crash over the weekend, whose plane was also a 737 MAX 8. It was the second crash in a 5 month period, which has raised safety concerns.

Norwegian has released a statement in regards to their 737 MAX 8 suspensions. In a press release the company says:

In response to the instruction by the European aviation regulatory bodies to suspend operations of the Boeing 737 MAX, Norwegian will temporarily deploy a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to operate US flights from Dublin Airport to support affected customers.

Customers that were effected by the suspension of the 737 MAX 8 fleet earlier this week will be booked on 787-9 Dreamliner. Norwegian says "The 787 Dreamliner, registered G-CKWF with Charles Lindbergh on the aircraft tail, will operate the Dublin-New York Stewart (SWF) route daily."

Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus in a statement said he has been in contact with Ed Harrison, the General Manager at Stewart International Airport.

Neuhaus says “Mr. Harrison has worked closely with Norwegian Air to ensure that the carrier provides substitute aircraft for travelers in a timely manner. I appreciate Norwegian’s continued support of flights at Stewart International Airport and its proactive leadership.”
