This is the best way we could come up with to remember.

We are getting ready to head into a much needed three day weekend as the unofficial start to summer is this weekend with Memorial Day set for Monday May 25th. If you need a reminder as to why we celebrate Memorial Day as a national holiday, it's simple.

According to Wikipedia, Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the military personnel who had died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. We observe Memorial Day each year on the last Monday of May each year since 1970. Before that Americans would observe on May 30th.

As we all adjust to the way things have changed since the coronavirus pandemic started, many Hudson Valley counties and towns have planned some sort of ceremonies across the Valley this weekend and we thought we need to also need to show our appreciation for the men, women and families of service members that made the ultimate sacrifice. How?

We thought the best way to remember would be to get some of the kids in the area to call in and recite the Pledge of Allegiance on the air for us. If you're a parent and would like your child to be on the Wakin' Up with CJ and Jess Show this morning to do the pledge, all you need to do is call us at 845-454-9770 and we will take it from there.

If you have your child call in, here are the "lyrics" to the pledge that they can refer to if they need some help....

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America
and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation
under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Happy Memorial Day!!
