A beloved Hudson Valley deli has served its last customer after being in business for nearly 40 years.

The Take 5 Deli at 49 Civic Center Plaza in Poughkeepsie is officially closed for good.

"Today is the end of an era, as the Take 5 Deli across the street from City Hall is closing. Michael Signorelli and Ann Signorelli have been an important stitch in the fabric of this community for nearly 40 years. I wish them the best of luck and am comforted by the fact they are staying in the area where they have so many dear friends," City of Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison wrote on Facebook on Thursday.

Rolison also honored Michael and Ann Signorelli with a "Mayoral Certificate of Recognition" for "38 years of being an important stitch in the fabric of our City."

Michael Signorelli opened the Take 5 Deli in 1982 after graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in 1980.

In July, while announcing the deli would be closing in August, Michael said the business was closing because he was retiring.

"Take 5 Deli has been a staple in the downtown city of Poughkeepsie for more than three decades. Ann and I would like to thank all of our customers for your loyalty and support throughout the years," Michael Signorelli wrote on Facebook.
