A legendary Hudson Valley business is ready to close after nearly 80 years.

There have been rumors on social media that the Caffe Aurora Pastry Shop in Poughkeepsie is closing. The beloved family owned and operated business has been serving the Hudson Valley authentic Italian desserts and drinks since 1941.

"Generation after generation, we bring a taste of Italy home to New York," Caffe Aurora Pastry Shop boasts on its website.

Caffe Aurora Pastry Shop on Mill Street in Poughkeepsie makes all of its products from scratch. A recent article by Medium said Caffe Auoroa is "A Taste of Italy in Poughkeepsie."

Because of all their delicious food, it's easy to understand why Hudson Valley residents would be upset if Caffe Aurora closed down.

It's possible that rumors of the closure began because there is a large sign outside the business that reads "For Sale or Lease." I drove by Caffe Aurora early Wednesday morning and took a photo of the business which features the for sale sign.

I then went up to the door and a sign said Caffe Aurora is currently open but will be closed for the July 4th holiday.

Later on Wednesday morning, owner Lou Strippoli confirmed to Hudson Valley Post the business and building is for sale and depending on who buys the building the business may close.

"It's bittersweet," Strippoli said over the phone. "We are in our 80th year. I will have a hard time walking away from it, but I know I have to. It would be fabulous if it could be continued as a family business but I have to look ahead to myself."

Strippoli said the sign was put on Monday and he's already received a number of calls.
