It's the Battle of the Dummies...

Well, the Dummy Lights.

Historic Beacon, New York Dummy Light Can't Catch a Break

Hudson Valley residents are well versed when it comes to the Beacon, New York Dummy Light. The fixtured sits smack dab in the middle of Main Street and the intersection of E. Main Street right in front of The Round House.

For years the poor Dummy Light has been a punching bag of sorts for unsuspecting drivers. Are they unsuspecting or are they just not paying attention?

I digress.

It seems like every 3 months or so the Beacon, New York Dummy Light is hit. I know I wasn't the only one who noticed. Someone from the town took notice and in December of 2023 the base of the light was painted with a bright yellow and yellow pavement marking to draw attention to drivers.

By March 2024, the Beacon Dummy Light was struck once again.

Which NY Town Does the Dummy Light Better?

Whenever we talk about the Beacon Dummy Light, we always mention that there is another Dummy Light in existence in Croton-on-Hudson.

Recently, the DPW of Village of Croton-on-Hudson got gave their Dummy Light a "fresh coat of paint" and it even got a new No Turn on Red sign.

I scrolled a bit and could only find one recent incident with The Village of Croton-on-Hudson Dummy Light. It was struck by a hit-and-run driver in December 2023. We'll have to do a bit more digging to see which Dummy Light has been hit the most (I have a feeling it's Beacon though...).

According to Historic Towns of America, both Beacon and Croton-on-Hudson can claim they are home to the "oldest traffic light in America" as both were built in 1926 and "are still in use today."

Why not stir up some good old competition. Which Dummy Light do you like more? Beacon or Croton-on-Hudson?!

Andritsakis submitted it to the 2018 New York State Fair Drone Film Festival, and deservedly so, he received a Gold Medal honor for his aerial work throughout upstate New York.
