2 Hudson Valley Breweries Named Among Best in the Nation

Score one for the Hudson Valley! There were only two winners from New York at the Great American Beer Festival competition, and both were from Dutchess County.

The Great American Beer Festival is an annual competition held for the past 40 years in Denver, CO. They invite breweries from all across the country, and celebrate everything from popular brews like pumpkin beer and lagers to historic brews including Gotlandsdricke and Grodziskie (I never heard of those, either). But back to the Hudson Valley, and the winning brewery from Poughkeepsie, NY.

King's Court Brewing Company in Poughkeepsie, NY

King's Court Brewing Company in Poughkeepsie, NY took home a bronze medal for their Frog King beer, beating over 120 other entries in the "American Amber/Red Ale" category. The beer is described as "super drinkable with hints of dried fruit and the subtle sense of rye spice". There were literally hundred of medals given out, but King's Court was one of only two breweries in the Hudson Valley to be honored. As for the other medalist...

The Brewery at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY

For local hop aficionados, this may not come as a surprise, as the brewer behind the other Hudson Valley medal has been making waves in the craft beer community for over a decade. Hutch Kugeman, the head brewer at the Culinary Institute of America helped take home some bronze hardware for their Soigne Saison in the classic saison category. So where can you get your hands on these award-winning brews?

You can visit King's Court Brewing Company at 40 Cannon St in Poughkeepsie NY Thursday and Friday 4pm-10pm, Saturday 2pm-10pm, and Sunday from 2pm-6pm. The brewery at the CIA is located on the CIA campus at 1946 Campus Dr in Hyde Park, NY inside "The Egg" (above). They are open Monday-Friday 8:30am-10pm and Saturday-Sunday 9am-10pm.
