At Home Retail Chain Closing Stores Including New York Locations
A popular home décor and furniture retailer with more than 200 locations in the U.S. is filing for bankruptcy and closing numerous stores.
One thing I think we've all learned at the halfway mark of 2025 is that no business is safe from the dreaded restructuring/bankruptcy announcement. So far this year, many big-name pharmacies have announced restructuring plans, with some closing numerous stores.
The auto parts and auto service center industry has also followed the same path, and now we can add one of the larger home décor and furniture retailers to the bankruptcy list.
At Home Filing for Bankruptcy
One of the most popular home furnishing and décor stores in the U.S. has announced that it will be entering Chapter 11 protection, according to CBS. The company, which operates more than 200 locations across the U.S., made the announcement Monday, stating that the bankruptcy filing is part of the company's restructuring agreement intended to eliminate debt.
The Texas-based company, which is owned by Hellman & Friedman, the Plano, hopes to eliminate approximately $2 billion in debt and add $200 million in capital to help with its restructuring process.
At Home Struggles
Last month, news outlets reported that at Home had been struggling for months due to rising tariffs, with company CEO Brad Weston saying in a statement that the company is "operating against the backdrop of an increasingly dynamic and rapidly evolving trade environment as we navigate the impact of tariffs."
At Home Closing Stores
Court papers have indicated that the bankruptcy filing will include the closing of at least 26 of its 200+ stores across the U.S., including two underperforming stores in New York. According to USA Today, the at Home stores at 6135 Junction Boulevard in Rego Park, New York, and at 300 Baychester Ave. in Bronx, New York, will close by September 30, 2025.
