Army Football Honors 3rd Infantry Division “Dogface Soldier” with 2023 Army-Navy Uniforms

The Army Black Knights are gearing up for this year's Army-Navy game with brand-new uniforms honoring The 3rd Infantry Division.

Army West Point Football Will Honor 3rd Infantry Division

According to the Rock of The Marne website, the 2023 Army-Navy uniforms will tell "the story of the soldiers of the 3rd Infantry Division during the opening phase of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF)." 2023 marks the 20th anniversary of "the Marne Division’s participation in the initiation of offensive operations in Iraq" which was the "longest and most rapid armored advance since  the Second World War."

The 3rd Infantry is one of the oldest and most decorated divisions in the US Army.  During the invasion of Iraq in 2003, soldiers were praised for their "tactical competence" which added so much more to their legacy.

The Dogface Soldiers and Rocky The Bulldog

Soldiers in The 3rd Infantry are known as The Dogface Soldiers due to their determination in the face of diversity. Rocky The Bulldog is the mascot of the 3rd Infantry and will be displayed on both sides of the Army helmets during the 2023 game.

Fun fact: Rocky the Bulldog was created by Walt Disney in 1965 and through an exchange of letters between Disney Production and the 3rd Infantry Division they were able to come to an agreement and make Rocky the official mascot.

The Army Football Black Knights will take on the Navy Midshipmen on December 9th at 3 PM. This is the first year that the game will be played in New England at Gillett Stadium, home of the New England Patriots.
