
Kingston Man Accused of Knife Threat During Disturbing Dog Abuse Incident
Man Seen Abusing Dog in Kingston, New York
On lookers were shocked last week when they observed a man with a knife abusing a dog on a public street in Kingston.
The City of Kingston Police Department shared in a press release on October 1th, 2025, at approximately 10:15 am they responded to "a report of a man abusing a dog and a man with a knife on Cedar Street."
The alleged suspect, Quameik Byrd, was "observed by several people kicking and striking a young puppy as well as dragging it by its leash and lifting the dog into the air by its leash."
Kingston Community Tries To Step In During Alleged Animal Abuse
The statement goes on to say that several people attempted to intervene and stop Byrd from abusing the animal.
However, Byrd allegedly then "brandished a knife and threatened to stab them and their families."
One of those people that was threatened by Byrd was under the age of 17 years old.
City of Kingston Police arrived on the scene, arrested and transported the suspect in Kingston Police Department Headquarters where Byrd then punched a concrete wall.
This required Byrd to be transported to HealthAlliance Hospital. Byrd was treated and transported back to "KPD HQ processed and held for arraignment in Kingston City Court."
The dog is currently in the care and custody of the Ulster County SPCA.
