After 32 Days on The Run, Buddha Dog Rescue & Recovery Finally Captures Peaches The Dog
After 32 long days on the run, a missing dog in Rockland County was finally reunited with her family.
New City, New York Dog Goes Missing
On May 17th, 2025, Peaches the dog went missing from her families home in New City, New York.
The team at Buddha Dog Rescue detailed the rescue on Facebook and explains that in just 10 days, Peaches was able to travel over 3 miles on her own.
At this time, the New Jersey based pet recovery organization was not part of the search effort as another organization was leading the way.
However, BDRR states that they usually don't "take on cases where another party is already involved" because it ends up becoming an "untangling a web of good intentions gone sideways."
But after following Peaches story they write "something in our gut said if we don’t step in, Peaches won’t make it. So we did."
Peaches The Pup Takes on The Palisades Parkway
Traps had already been set by other organizations, but unfortunately those traps caught wildlife like raccoons and foxes. Buddha Dog Rescue & Recovery explains that dogs like Peaches are smart.
They see animals being trapped, they're going to do their best to avoid that area. According to BDRR this pushed them " five steps behind" in their rescue efforts.
While Peaches was on the run she teamed up with a family of foxes. BDRR writes:
She traveled with them, played with them, like a Disney movie directed by Quentin Tarantino. It was cute…until she started using the Palisades Parkway as her personal thoroughfare
Peaches was spotted "median lounging, grassy knoll napping" and coming dangerously close tot he passing cars flying by on the Palisades Parkway.
Buddha Dog Rescue & Recovery Steps in To Help Get Peaches Home
The Buddha Dog Rescue & Recovery team found themselves in a tough predicament. Many in the neighborhood of where Peaches was missing wanted to help, but the way they went about it made trapping Peaches even more difficult.
Peaches was not reacting to people calling for her, approaching her or chasing her. During one of their well executed plans, BDRR ran into a neighbor onsite who promised not to chase and call for the dog.
BDRR explains why listening to their instructions is important writing:
Every time someone chased Peaches, her next known location was back on the Palisades Parkway. It became her safety zone…the one place she knew humans wouldn’t follow.
Thankfully, after carefully setting a trap in Nanuet and cooperative neighbors, Peaches appeared near a trap.
According to BDRR Peaches was "flanked by foxes" as she sniffed and stepped into the trap where she was safely captured after 32 days on the run.
Buddha Dog Rescue & Recover concludes their harrowing tale on Facebook with the following: "This rescue wasn’t easy but knowing we had a community standing behind us made it possible. We are deeply grateful for your support and will never forget the role you played in bringing Peaches home."
