Wow. Another one bites the dust I guess.

This one hurts a little more because it's hard to come by in the Hudson Valley as there is only one standing location still around.

Every year on July 11th, 7-Eleven convenient stores run their Free Slurpee promotion. It's exactly what it sounds like. Customers get to beat the heat with the deliciousness of a free Slurpee.

Delish is reporting that 7-Eleven Day is canceled this year due to COVID-19. In a statement Marissa Jarratt, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of 7-Eleven said:

At 7-Eleven, our top priority is the safety of customers, Franchisees and employees. Gathering 9 million of our closest friends in stores on one day just didn't feel right, but I am heartened that we now have the opportunity to help the communities and neighborhoods that have been the lifeline of our business since 1927.

This is the first time 7-Eleven's free Slurpee day has been canceled in over 20 years.

While it's upsetting that we'll be missing out on celebrating 7-Eleven day, they are making it up to their loyal customers.

Throughout the month of July 7-Eleven will be offering one free medium Slurpee. A coupon will be available for 7Rewards loyalty app members. You'll get a coupon through the app that will give you access to your free Slurpee any day in July, so you don't have to worry about clearing your schedule on July 11th.

Back in the day, the Hudson Valley was filled with 7-Eleven locations. But in recent years all of those locations have dwindled down to 1.

You can visit the lone 7-Eleven location at  266 Hooker Ave in Poughkeepsie.
