Every one of these stories breaks my heart.

According to the Times Herald-Record is reporting that the Dutchess County SPCA removed several cats from a home that was in a "animal cruelty situation." We've heard of stories like this before, however in this situation there were 67 cats taken from a home. The Dutchess County SPCA humane law enforcement division and a team of SPCA staff members removed the cats from a home in East Fishkill.

The East Fishkill resident and pet owner, who was not named in the article, gave the cats over to the SPCA. The owner will be appearing at the East Fishkill Town Court for a probation violation stemming from previous animal cruelty charges.

Dutchess County SPCA Director Wayne Mabey told the Record that some of the cats are in need of serious medical assistance and surgery while others are in need of some TLC. Overall, Mabey says the cost can get up to $20,000. You can help by donating at the Dutchess County SPCA website or sending a check to their office at 636 Violet Avenue, Hyde Park, N.Y. 12538 along with a note that says "Medical Care for Cats."
