One of the best parts of living in New York State is the variety. If you want to live city life, you've got New York City and quite a few other medium-sized cities to choose from. On the other hand, if you want to live in the country, there are plenty of rural areas. If the suburbs are your thing, NY has those too.
Liveability puts together an annual list of its choices for the Top 100 Best Places to Live in America. In the Northeast region, four New York cities landed on the list.
The list is based on more than 50 data points and examines 2,300 cities to narrow down the very best places to live across the country. Here, we’re highlighting the top 25 best places to live in the Northeast based on our research. Each city has something special to offer — read on to find out what.
Some of the cities outside of New York that made the list include Pittsburgh, PA, Nashua, NH, and Portland, ME. I've actually been to Portland. It really did seem like a nice place to live.
These 4 New York Cities Are Among The Best Places To Live In Northeast
Ithaca, NY
Ithaca is in Tompkins County, which is in the Finger Lakes Region of New York. It is located at the southern shore of Cayuga Lake. Cornell University is situated in Ithaca. Livability says,
Surrounded by trees and water, there are 150 cascades in and around the city, including Ithaca Falls on the edge of downtown spanning 175 feet in width and 150 feet in height. All these attributes make Ithaca one of the best places to live in the Northeast.
Saratoga Springs, NY
Saratoga Springs is located directly north of Albany, in Saratoga County. The city is home to just under 30,000 New Yorkers and the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. Livability says,

Albany, NY
Albany is the Capital of New York State, located in Albany County. It sits on the west bank of the Hudson River and has a population of just under 100,000. Livability says,

Albany is also one of the more affordable cities in the Northeast, making it an attractive option for those just starting their careers.

Buffalo, NY
As a resident of Buffalo, I'm happy to see my city on the list. So man times, Buffalo ends up on the bad lists. Buffalo is a great city to live with amazing food, history, culture, architecture, and of course, sports. Home of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo is located in Western New York. We are a short drive from Niagara Falls and Souther Ontario, Canada. We are not too far from Toronto also. Buffalo sits on one of the Great Lakes, Lake Erie. Livability says,
