2 Western New York Police Officers Killed in the Line of Duty
2 New York law enforcement officers have died after being struck by gunfire.
Syracuse, NY Police Officers Encounter Suspicious Vehicle
According to a press release from the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office on Facebook, at around 7:07 pm on Sunday, April 14th, 2024, Syracuse Police Officers tried to stop a suspicious vehicle. However, the driver did not stop.
The driver then fled the area and the officers "lost sight of the vehicle but were able to record the license plate information." Officers then took that information and determined the registered owner lived at a residence in Liverpool, New York.
From there Syracuse Police responded to the address, with members of the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office where they found the vehicle.
Gunfire Exchanged at Liverpool, NY Residence
A short time after police arrived at the house on Darien Drive "the police officers and sheriff’s deputies were encountered by an armed male and an exchange of gunfire followed."
The press release goes on to explain that during the exchange:
One Syracuse Police Officer and one Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy were struck by gunfire. The armed suspect was also shot.
2 Western, NY Law Enforcement Officers Die in Line of Duty
The 2 officers who were struck succumbed to their injuries. The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office adds in the statement:
Both law enforcement officers were transported to Upstate University Hospital where life saving measures were conducted. The Syracuse Police Officer and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy succumbed to their injuries.
The suspect was pronounced dead at University Hospital.
