Dutchess County Department of Public Works announced today through a press release that construction on a large road improvement project will begin this week. Myers Corners Road also known as County Route 93 between All Angels Road (County Route 94) and State Route 376 in the the Town of Wappingers will under go this reconstruction to improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians.

The project which will cost an estimated $7.57 million (80% of which is federally funded) will included new pavement, drainage, signage, and shoulders. The project actually starts tomorrow (March 5, 2019). The preliminary work will happen first. It involves tree removal and clearing the shoulder areas. From start to finish it is expected this project will take about 15 months.

The sections of Myers corner road that this project involves averages approximately 8,500 vehicles a day according to the press release for the DCDPW. This project's goal is to make this well traveled roadway safer. The press release also states that the expanded shoulders make it part of Dutchess County's "Complete Streets" policy that supports safe travel of any kind. This includes walking, bicycling, riding the bus or driving.

So for those of us who count on this road for our daily travels in Dutchess County be aware that during this time you will encounter frequent lane closures and significant delays. Rerouting ourselves might be the best plan otherwise leave extra time because there will be delays.

The County also urges motorists to use caution in the area when driving. There will be flaggers, new speed limits and travel advisory signs that all need your attention when you are driving through the improvement area.
