An 18-year-old college student was left lying in the road after being struck by an illegal dirt bike last month in Upstate New York.

Over the last few years, lawmakers across New York have begun to try and crackdown on the number of illegal dirt bikes that are driving on streets. The illegal motorbikes are usually unregistered, uninsured, and oftentimes operated by drivers that don't hold a proper license to operate a motorcycle.

The motorbike problem is not only a Hudson Valley issue it's also a big problem in the Albany portion of the state. Authorities in Albany have tried various methods to combat the problem by increasing patrols and making fines for violators severe. Unfortunately, those methods didn't prevent what many knew was going to happen eventually, a serious accident that almost killed an innocent victim.
