If you're familiar with the Newburgh area, then you know of the Liberty Street School. You would also know that it has been vacant for some time now and that several projects have been proposed, but never were completed. In 2000 it was proposed that the building would become a museum then, later in 2008 the developer Bluestone wanted to build it up as a condominium. Both projects didn't see the light of day.

Recently however, Thomas Dodd a gallery and film studio owner in New York City has shown some interest in the Liberty Street School building. Although he hasn't released a statement regarding the upcoming project, Councilwoman Genie Abrahms  told the Times Herald Record that Dodd is planning to turn the vacant building into a film studio. As mentioned before Dodd owns film studios in the city and has purchased some residential and commercial property in Newburgh, according to the article.

We've seen the Hudson Valley pop up here and there on our favorite TV shows and movies. Cold Spring, Kingston, Millbrook are some hot filming spots. How would you feel about a film studio coming to Newburgh. More specifically, do you think the project will get finished? Let us know on Facebook
