Beacon Woman Arrested After Allegedly Shoplifting With Baby Stroller

A woman from Beacon, New York has been arrested after she allegedly stole over $100 worth of merchandise from a popular sporting goods store by hiding it in a baby stroller.

It's been well documented over the last few years that one of the biggest problems that many retail stores are currently dealing with is a rise in retail theft. Oftentimes referred to as shoplifting, retail theft isn't anything new for stores but the amount and methods criminals are using to steal today have caused numerous changes at a lot of stores including some closing and only offering specific ways to checkout.

Dutchess County Woman Uses Baby Stroller to Shoplift

The methods shoplifters use today vary but one of the most common ways shoplifters get away with items without paying for them is to stuff whatever they are stealing into a bag, down their pants or if they have a stroller they will oftentimes hide items inside them. A Beacon woman is accused of using the ladder method last week while shopping at Dick's Sporting Goods and according to the Yorktown Police Department, she has been arrested and charged with various crimes.

Beacon Woman Arrested

24-year-old Jaznia Mccrae, has been arrested after police say she allegedly stole over $100 of items from Dicks Sporting Goods at the Jefferson Valley Mall on January 23rd. Police said that shortly after 1 p.m. they were dispatched to the sporting goods store for a report of theft that just occurred. As they arrived on the scene Mccrae had already left the store but after investigating police determined that she allegedly concealed more than $104 in assorted merchandise in a baby stroller that had a 10-month-old child in it and walked out of the store.

Police were able to get a description of Mccrae's vehicle and quickly sent it out to surrounding police agencies hoping to locate it as soon as possible according to Patch. Later the same day, at around 5:40 p.m. a Putnam County Sheriff stopped her vehicle on Route 9D and she was placed under arrest. Mccrae was charged with two misdemeanors including petit larceny and endangering the welfare of a child. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Yorktown Justice Court on February 8th and released.
