It's pretty amazing what law enforcement will do on any given day at the job. It's not always simply about writing tickets or busting criminals. Sometimes it's the little things.

You've heard of police being called to help save the neighborhood cat stuck too high up in a tree. Well, one heroic lower Hudson Valley police officer put his own life at risk by running into a shed fire. All this to save...a chicken?

LoHud is reporting that Ossining Police Officer Patrick McGovern was responding to a fire Saturday. >Body camera shows McGovern moving propane tanks in the shed when he hears the chicken clucking. McGovern then grabbed the chicken and brought it to safety, >according to LoHud.

Of course, McGovern's heroic deed did not go unnoticed, especially by his fellow officers at the Ossining Police Department, who took a light hearted jab at him on their Facebook page:

Congratulations, Officer McGovern. Since the ‘Lifesaving Award’ doesn’t specifically prohibit the subject of your bravery from being poultry, we will put you in for an award because, well, this is a story that’s too good to let go of.

Both the officer and the chicken made it out without injury. No word if the chicken ended up n anyone's dinner plate.
