Vince Gill Postpones Shows After Missing CMA Awards Due to Hospitalization
Vince Gill has postponed several upcoming shows due to being hospitalized with a kidney stone that made him miss the CMA Awards.
The 61-year old singer-songwriter and guitarist was slated to perform alongside longtime friend and former bandmate Ricky Skaggs at the 2018 CMA Awards on Wednesday night (Nov. 14), but was forced to cancel that appearance at the last minute after being hospitalized. Brothers Osborne guitarist John Osborne revealed on the red carpet that Gill had a kidney stone, and Brothers Osborne ended up filling in for Gill, along with Keith Urban, in an all-star country and bluegrass jam led by Skaggs that was a show highlight.
Gill's scheduled show for Thursday (Nov. 15) at the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham has been postponed, as has his gig set for Friday (Nov. 16) at the Stifel Theatre in St. Louis. Both venues announced the postponements via social media. The dates are expected to be rescheduled within the next several months.
Reached by phone, the box office at the Norton Center for the Arts in Danville, Ky., where Gill was supposed to perform on Sunday (Nov. 18), says that show is postponed and a new show date is pending. The Murat Theatre in Indianapolis, where Gill was scheduled to play a show on Saturday (Nov. 17), has not yet announced a cancellation and could not be reached by phone, but the date no longer appears on Gill's official concert calendar on his website.
Gill's next scheduled live dates are 12 Christmas shows that he is slated to perform with his wife, Amy Grant, at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Nov. 28-29, Dec. 3, Dec. 5-6, Dec. 12-13 and Dec. 16-20.
