On Saturday, Trump told reports he's thinking of placing New York State in quarantine as the numbers of confirmed coronavirus cases in New York continue to soar.

"We'd like to see [it] quarantined because it's a hotspot," Trump told reporters on Saturday, according to the BBC. "I'm thinking about that."

Trump is considering putting New York State in a 14-day quarantine and added also he may place New Jersey and parts of Connecticut under quarantined.

"We're thinking about certain things. Some people would like to see New York quarantined because it's a hotspot. We might not have to do it, but there's a possibility that sometime today we'll do a quarantine, short-term, two weeks on New York. Probably New Jersey, certain parts of Connecticut," Trump told reporters, CNN reports. "I'd rather not do it, but maybe we need it."

On Saturday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo confirmed 52,318 New Yorkers tested positive for the novel coronavirus and 728 from the state have died from the virus.

"We have been behind this virus since day one," Cuomo said during his press conference. "We have been in a reactive posture from day one. "You don't win on defense. You win on offense. That's what we are doing with the apex preparation."

Cuomo noted he hasn't talked with Trump about the President placing the state under quarantine.

"I didn't speak to him about any quarantine. I don't even know what that means," Cuomo said during the press conference. From a medical point of view, I don’t know what you would be accomplishing. I don’t like the sound of it."

Trump later tweeted on Saturday, confirming he's considering quarantining New York.

"I am giving consideration to a QUARANTINE of developing “hot spots”, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. A decision will be made, one way or another, shortly." Trump said.
