An early Sunday morning three-alarm fire gutted a warehouse and manufacturing facility at Azteca Food, a bakery and grocery in the City of Newburgh.

Fire officials received a number of calls around 5:30AM Sunday as neighbors at the building located on Washington Street said they smelled smoke. Residents were evacuated and stood nearby as firefighters fought the flames.

Seven other local fire companies assisted the City of Newburgh Fire Department. The warehouse and manufacturing site burned and collapsed due to the fire. The storefront and residential area were saved, but did suffer water and smoke damage. Officials say they had the fire contained by 8 a.m. Sunday. Firefighters did remain on the scene to investigate and make sure the fire didn’t start up again.

According to the Times Herald Record, two City of Newburgh firefighters and one from New Windsor were hurt on the scene. They were all treated and released from St. Luke’s-Cornwall Hospital with neck, back, and shoulder injuries.

The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
