The Highwomen Set Fire to Stereotypes in ‘Redesigning Women’ Music Video [WATCH]

The Highwomen packed their first music video, for their single "Redesigning Women," with special guests. Tanya Tucker, Cassadee Pope and more joined the the all-female collective comprised of Americana star Brandi Carlile, singer-songwriter Natalie Hemby, country star Maren Morris and singer, songwriter and fiddler extraordinaire Amanda Shires for the new clip, which debuted on Friday (July 19).

The "Redesigning Women" music video, directed by Elizabeth Olmstead, finds the Highwomen literally setting fire to boxes of items that have been used, in various capacities, to define women's roles: prom queen sashes, Shake Weights, ironing boards and more. In addition to Tucker and Pope, Wynonna Judd, Cam, Kassi Ashton, Lilly Hiatt and others roll up to the bonfire in a pickup truck, the whole group dancing and toasting with blue Solo cups.

The first song from a forthcoming album produced by Dave Cobb, "Redesigning Women" features all four women on vocals. Hemby co-wrote the song with Rodney Clawson; Carlile's collaborators, Phil and Tim Hanseroth, play bass and acoustic guitar, respectively, while Shires' husband, Jason Isbell, plays electric guitar.

The Highwomen came to be, in part, because of a desire to foster connections between female artists and help continue the strong tradition of women in country music that the collective's members enjoyed growing up. "Our goal is simply to elevate all women and completely abandon the concept of competing with one another. So that we can let as many women through the door as possible, and give our girls those country music heroes that we all had," Carlile explains.

The Highwomen will make their official live debut at the 2019 Newport Folk Festival, which is scheduled for July 26-28 in Rhode Island. Their self-titled debut album will be out on Sept. 6.
