Do you think Hudson Valley schools should be a cell phone-free zone?

Every Wednesday on the Wakin' Up with CJ and Jess Show we check our email inbox and pick one email that someone just like you sent in to us looking for advice or for us to help them answer a question.

Today's email came from Mary, a Hudson Valley mom, looking to hear what we think about cell phones in school. She wrote, "Hey Guys, I had no idea that schools are starting to make students turn in their phones or lock them in a special box at the beginning of the school day. I guess so they aren't a distraction. As a parent of a high schooler I kinda feel that this might be a bad idea, only because I want to be able to reach her in an emergency. Right? Should schools be cell phone free?"

We got a ton of calls and text messages from listeners that think that kids should be able to have their phones but they need to be put somewhere so that they aren't a distraction during class time.

We had a high school teacher tell us that she has cubbys for the kids to put their phones in when they come to her class and that seems to work, although some kids try to get away with keeping their phones by only putting the phone case in the cubby. She also said some kids will try to put a calculator in the cubby instead of their phone. Yes, that would have been me! LOL!
