The times, they are a changing. The "I Love New York" tourism signs are about to be taken down from highways all across the Hudson Valley and the state.

On Thursday, the Department of Transportation confirmed crews have started removing hundreds of tourism signs across state highways, ABC reports.

The "I Love New York" signs have been at the center of controversy between Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the Federal Highway Administration.

Cuomo said the signs were important for the state's $100 billion tourism industry while the Federal Highway Administration said they were illegal and distracting to drivers.

Keeping the "I Love New York" signs up would cost the state $14 million in federal highway funding, according to ABC.

The signs will be moved to rest stops across New York.
